HawkEye is an optical and computing payload for the detection of anomalous materials. It is suitable for drone mounting, handheld use or as an unattended ground sensor.
In modern military and security operations, the inability to detect camouflaged personnel or hidden equipment, and concealed threats—such as landmines—poses a critical challenge. No working technological solution for these problems exists today. Falconers is developing HawkEye, an optical and computing payload, to address this gap with an intelligent, cost-effective solution.
Whereas thermal imagers require a thermal signature to make detections, HawkEye requires only light: it can then leverage AI-enabled algorithmic analysis of minuscule differences in spectres of light, both visible and invisible, to detect and classify anomalies.
The HawkEye development project is partly funded by an Estonian Ministry of Defence development grant.
